What’s New in Version 6.00.00?

14 February, 2003

Updating RSLogix 5  |  Current Enhancements  |  Current Repairs   |  Known Anomalies  |  Caveats

IMPORTANT - Effective with release V5.50, RSLogix 5 no longer supports operation on workstations running Microsoft Windows 95™ operating system.  RSLogix 5 is supported on workstations running Microsoft Windows 98™, Windows ME™, Windows NT 4.0™ SP6a and greater, Windows 2000™ or Windows XP™ operating system.

IMPORTANT- An I/O editing anomaly in RSLogix 5 V5.20.10 may have incorrectly saved I/O configuration information.  Please see the details below (use the "Current Repairs" link) prior to opening such projects in V5.20.20.

IMPORTANT-CONFIGURING I/O OVER CNET ONLINE !  Effective with V5.20.00 the CNET I/O applets are updated from the data tables not the .XC file (as was the case in prior releases). See "Current Enhancements" for further details.

IMPORTANT STX Users!  Using RSLogix 5 to upload or save PLC5 programs (in .X5 format), which contain structured text program files, results in input expressions being modified.  This is true for all versions of RSLogix 5 prior to r4.11.00.  Re-downloading after this occurs may result in undesired operation.

IMPORTANT CONTROLNET 1.5 USERS!  RSLogix 5 r5.xx and RSLogix 5 r4.xx integrate with RSNetworx for the development and maintenance of ControlNet 1.5 systems.  You must update RSNetworx to r2.22 or later. Failure to update may lead to unsatisfactory results.  RSLogix 5 r5.xx or r4.xx should not be used with any RSNetworx version prior to r2.22.  Failure to heed this caution may result in a corrupt ControlNet 1.5 configuration file (.XC).

IMPORTANT EDITING ONLINE!  If you cut and paste or Drag and Drop to a data or address location while ONLINE, Your action will take effect IMMEDIATELY!  There is no “Are you Sure” prompt for this action.

IMPORTANT ALL RSSql, RSView, RSLinx USERS!  If you install RSLogix 5 r4.00.00 and save a new .RSP, your connection from RSSql, RSView, or RSLinx to the tags contained in the RSP will no longer work.  If you are using Tags acquired using an active connection to the RSLogix 5 .RSP, Install the Database Update provided with r4.10.00 or later onto the computer running the RSSql, RSView, or RSLinx application to resolve this issue.

IMPORTANT ALL USERS!   When you accept an online edit in RSLogix 5 r3.22.00 the data associated with the rung is transmitted to the processor.  The data sent to the processor may be out-of-date.  When you begin an online edit RSLogix 5 caches the values associated with the rung you are editing.  Upon acceptance of the online edit the cached data is sent to the processor.  This may affect your application program in ways you did not anticipate.  RSLogix 5 r3.02.00 did not transmit any of the data to your processor.  This resulted in many of you experiencing problems with online editing.  Earlier versions of RSLogix 5 operate as r3.22.00 does, RSLogix 5 r3.22.00 restores this earlier functionality.

IMPORTANT CONTROLNET 1.5 USERS!  After downloading any ControlNet 1.5 configuration changes with RSNetWorx, you must upload each PLC5 processor's program and save it using RSLogix to ensure that the ControlNet system map remains synchronized.

IMPORTANT ALL USERS!   Following an online edit or project download the Enhanced PLC5 processor must generate the processor checksum.  The checksum generation is performed as a background processor task.  The calculation can take seconds or minutes to complete.  If you perform a save during the checksum calculation it is likely that you will be forced to upload the processor project the next time you Go Online.  RSLogix 5 r3.22.00 or later warns you of this possibility if the checksum is being generated when you attempt to save the project.
Enhanced PLC5 processors series E revision D or later contain an enhancement that generates the checksum during the download.

All Users
You must use RSLinx r2.10.175 or later with RSLogix 5 with Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 98. RSLinx Lite is included with RSLogix 5.

To Update Release from earlier releases         [goto Top]

To update to RSLogix 5 r5.xx from an earlier version you must remove the earlier version first.  Use Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel to remove the previously installed version. Your project files will not be affected.  To install RSLogix 5 r5.xx run the SETUP program located on the CD.   Remember, your new r4.1x RSP and older RSP projects once opened with r4.00.00 or later cannot be opened in versions prior to r4.00.00 of RSLogix 5.

NOTE! Upgrading RSLogix 5 on WIN2K PC's that also have RSNetWorx installed may require you to reinstall RSNetWorx after RSLogix 5 is installed.

Important!  Projects that have been created with r5.xx can be opened with r4.xx, however r5.x specific feature content stored in the RSP file (CGM, VBA, etc.) will be lost if you resave in r4.xx.

*The I/O configuration applets for 1746/1747 I/O over CNET do not support entering safe state data.  An application note with instructions for entering safe state data is available through Technical Support.

When using non-default connections with 1746/1747 I/O over CNET, the RSLogix I/O applet will not reflect the correct register allocation size for the connection. This makes it possible for the user to misinterpret input data or overwrite output data that is not really associated with the connection being displayed by the applet. This not only applies to 1747 modules, but to 1794 and most 1771 modules as well.  There are 2 ways to avoid encountering this problem:

1) Always accept the default allocation sizes (the maximum number of registers supported) when mapping these modules in RSNetWorx

2) If non-default allocation mappings are selected, use the data table addresses rather than the I/O applets for writing or reading information to/from these modules.

Product Changes         [goto Top]

The following is a list of product changes and repairs included at the time the software was shipped to you:

RSLogix 5 r5.50.00

RSLogix 5 r5.20.20.

The following I/O Adapters will show up incorrectly in version 5.20.10 if the project was created in any prior version of RSLogix5:

Correct Module

What 5.20.10 will see

1747-ASB (Remote I/O)

Unknown ControlNet Adapter

1794-ASB E (Remote I/O)

N/A (first available in 5.20.10)

1747-ACN (ControlNet)

1747-ACNR (ControlNet)

1747-ACNR (ControlNet)

1794-ASB E (Remote I/O)

1797-ACNR (ControlNet)

1747-ASB (Remote I/O)

Non-I/O ControlNet Device Adapters (PanelView, Drives, etc,)

1797-ACNR (ControlNet)

If you have none of these adapters there is NO problem.   The project can be opened with V5.20.20 as per usual.

Any project created in V5.20.10 with any of the listed modules will have to be opened in V5.20.20 with the “Ctrl-Shift-O” key sequence (rather than File>Open or Ctrl-O.)  This will be followed by a confirmation dialog confirming a V5.20.10 project file.

Projects created prior to V5.20.10 can be opened and saved in V5.20.10 provided you DO NOT open I/O Configuration. The project will open in V5.20.20 with no problems.  Projects that are opened and I/O Configuration edited/saved in V5.20.10 will be incorrect for these modules.  V5.20.20 should be used to open an earlier backup of the project.
